A
truly magnificent course designed by Ryder Cup golfer Jose
Maria Canizares that is still only one of two championship
golf courses to be built on the east side of Malaga. The 18
holes at Anoreta offer a great challenge to all golfers, especially
players with low handicaps as the fairways are lined with
deep bunkers and water hazards. Water is a major feature around
this course with eleven holes coming in to play, the toughest
of which is the par 3 17th where a carry of 160 meters is
required. Other major challenges are the par 4 8th at 420
meters which doglegs to the right, and the very difficult
par 5 3rd at 528 meters with a double dogleg. Both of these
demand accuracy from the tee and solid iron play, where strength,
precision and patience are all required to avoid the OB and
water hazards. The palm tree lined fairways lead you to fast
greens with subtle borrows and steep slopes which are very
difficult to read, so getting down in two is not always easy.
However,
above all the challenges that Anoreta has to offer it still
remains one of the finest golfing walks you can imagine. Palm
trees, water fountains, wild life and the fabulous sea views
make this a great course worthy of any visiting golfer to
this part of the Costa del Sol.
Clubs and buggies can be rented from the pro shop which adjoins
the bar and restaurant where you will also find the swimming
pool.
